　　The Department of Gastroenterology of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, has a general outpatient clinic, specialist outpatient clinic, famous specialist outpatient clinic, and special outpatient clinics for fatty liver, biliary tract and pancreatic diseases treated by endoscope. The ward has 34 beds and a total of 26 medical and nursing staff, 23 doctors, 4 chief physicians, 13 associate chief physicians, 3 attending physicians, 3 junior physicians, and 13 nurses. The doctors are a professional team with high education, including 12 post-doctor, 11 doctors.

　　The Department of Gastroenterology features the diagnosis and treatment of liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases, and is especially experienced in the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases (chronic pancreatitis, early pancreatic cancer, etc.) using ultrasound endoscopy and puncture techniques; it also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of early cancers of the digestive tract under gastroscopy and enteroscopy. The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center is equipped with various advanced equipment: gastroscope, colonoscope, ultrasound endoscope, choledochoscope (spyglass), small intestine microscope, capsule endoscope, esophageal and rectal manometry, and 24-hour pH monitor, which can carry out painless gastroscopy and colonoscopy, endoscopic resection treatment of gastrointestinal polyps and early cancers, ERCP and detection of Helicobacter pylori. In addition, the department can also perform comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, such as combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy and other multidisciplinary therapies.

　　Youqing Xu, M.D., chief physician, professor, doctoral supervisor, and deputy director of the Department of Gastroenterology of Capital Medical University, has studied in Japan and the United States many times and is now the deputy head of the Fatty Liver and Alcoholic Liver Disease Group of the Hepatology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Dong Lv, Dr. Jun Zou, and Dr. Yuning Guo have rich clinical experience in diagnosing and treating gastroenterology diseases and are highly praised by patients.

　　The department undertakes the key projects of the 13th Five-Year Plan, major projects of the Municipal Science Committee, National Natural Science Foundation of China and several "Yangfan" projects. It has achieved a series of scientific research results so that the department enjoys a certain reputation among peer disciplines in the research of liver diseases and has published dozens of influential scientific research papers.

　　The Department of Gastroenterology undertakes theoretical lectures and clinical teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Capital Medical University. It is a training site for master's, doctoral and postdoctoral students. It has trained dozens of doctoral and master's students over the years. At the same time, the department is also the training base for specialists and subspecialists of the National Health Planning Commission and the clinical pharmacology base of the Ministry of Health.
