Department of Ultrasound
Beijing Tiantan Hospital of Capital Medical University is a large-scale, Grade A tertiary hospital characterized by neurology. The Department of Ultrasound of our hospital is Capital Medical University's clinical teaching base of ultrasound medicine, a key cultivation discipline of the Ministry of Education, a national key clinical specialty, an affiliated unit of the Department of Ultrasound Medicine of Capital Medical University, a doctoral and master's degree-granting site and a postdoctoral mobile workstation of ultrasound at Capital Medical University. Our Department of Ultrasound is the president of the Chinese Association of Ultrasound Physicians. Our Department of Ultrasound is the standardized training base for ultrasound medicine residents in Beijing, and is a national training center in several areas, including vascular ultrasound, ultrasonography, neurosurgical intraoperative ultrasound, and interventional ultrasound. The Department of Ultrasound has more than 50 staff members, including 15 doctoral degree holders, 18 master's degree holders, 12 senior titles, 1 doctoral supervisor and 4 master's supervisors. Our Department of Ultrasound has 42 ultrasound examination rooms and 2 interventional rooms, with 48 sets of high-grade color ultrasound equipments and microwave ablators. Also, our ultrasound department is equipped with multimedia demonstration room, 5G remote consultation center and ultrasound laboratory.
Our Department of Ultrasound has a comprehensive set of specialties. Our ultrasound department carries out numerous diagnostic programs, including routine abdominal, gynecological, obstetric, cardiac, peripheral vascular, superficial organ, musculoskeletal, intracavitary ultrasound, thoracic, gastrointestinal ultrasound and other routine diagnostic programs. There are also a number of new technology programs in our ultrasound department, including interventional ultrasound, microwave ablation of tumors, ultrasonic contrast, intraoperative ultrasound, transesophageal cardiac ultrasound, transcranial ultrasound, and three-dimensional ultrasound. The daily workload of our ultrasound department is nearly 2,000 visits. With the advantageous resources of our key discipline of Neurology, our Department of Ultrasound has taken the lead in carrying out numerous researches, including carotid plaque and cranio-cerebral vascular disease ultrasonography studies, lung tumor ultrasonography and thermal ablation therapy studies, intracranial arterial stenosis and hemorrhagic stroke transcranial ultrasonography studies, cerebral glioma angiogenesis, pathological grading, peri-tumor edema ultrasonography, and ultrasound-guided ablation therapy for cerebral gliomas, and other studies, with the above fields reaching a leading level both at home and abroad.
Our departmental members have hosted and carried out a number of national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, including one key project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), five surface projects of the NSFC, three youth projects and more than 10 provincial and ministerial projects. Our department members have published more than 200 papers in Chinese core journals and more than 90 SCI papers, and have edited nearly 10 professional books, including Carotid Color Doppler Ultrasound and Clinics, Cranio-Cerebral Intraoperative Ultrasound Atlas, Practical Interventional Ultrasonics, Imaging Diagnosis of Atherosclerotic Diseases, and Interventional Ultrasound of Mammary Gland and Thyroid, etc., and translated two monographs, including Imaging Anatomy Ultrasound and Principles of Vascular and Intravascular Ultrasound, and edited textbooks of Ultrasound medicine and Diagnostic Vascular Ultrasonography and have participated in the edition of more than 20 teaching materials and professional works. Our Department of Ultrasound hosts the National Ultrasound Academic Conference for more than 4,000 people every year, and also conducts academic exchanges with ultrasound specialists from the United States and other countries while communicating with ultrasonographers across the country; at the same time, it holds the Capital Ultrasound Medical Forum for nearly 1,000 people every year, which has cultivated a large number of talents. Our Department of Ultrasound also organizes the national continuing education program "Vascular and Interventional Ultrasound Study Course". Our Department of Ultrasound is also responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate ultrasound students of Capital Medical University, and has trained more than 80 postgraduates.
In recent years, the ultrasound department of our hospital has achieved good performance, ranking 11th in the overall national ranking, 3rd in North China, 3rd in Beijing, and 1st in the Capital Medical University system in the "China Hospital Specialty Reputation Ranking" published by Fudan University. In 2018, our hospital moved to the new hospital area in Fengtai, equipped with first-class modern facilities, with a broader space for development and a larger group of patients. The development slogan of the new Tiantan is "New Tiantan - New Journey - New Opportunities - New Challenges", and it's a good time for our ultrasound department to set sail and move towards a higher goal!
