Department of Neuroimmunology and Neuroinfectious Diseases
The Department of Neuroimmunology and Neuroinfectious Diseases is part of the Neurology Center of Beijing Tiantan Hospital. The National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases has a Neurological Infection and Immunity Laboratory to provide neuroimmune tests for clinical purposes. The team has been involved in developing Chinese expert consensus on multiple sclerosis and optic nerve myelitis. In 2018, the team initiated the establishment of the Beijing-Tianjin Neuroimmune Collaborative Center with the Department of Neurology of the General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University to promote the establishment of standardized diagnosis and treatment procedures and laboratory diagnostic standards for CNS autoimmune diseases nationwide. The department has a postdoctoral station. Two postdocs have entered the station successively to conduct research. Many master's and doctoral students are trained and graduated from here every year. The department holds the national continuing education program "Tiantan Neuroinfection and Immunity Summit Forum" and the training program for doctors. At present, there are 34 beds open, and about 800 patients are discharged from the hospital every year, among which the percentage of complex diseases is nearly 20%. There are general outpatient clinics, specialized outpatient clinics, special needs clinics, consultations for complex diseases, and international medical department clinics. Qualified collaboration has been established with related clinical departments, such as neurosurgery, ophthalmology, blood transfusion, neuroimaging, etc., to provide patients with high-level and comprehensive medical services.
Features:
80% of the department staff have doctoral degrees or above, with reasonable talent construction, and many members with international backgrounds. The department provides the most advanced diagnosis and treatment concepts for patients with neuroimmune and infectious diseases with a global perspective. The department is equipped with international first-class laboratory testing technology. It can conduct more comprehensive autoantibody testing of serum and cerebrospinal fluid. The team provides comprehensive individualized treatment plans for neurological immune diseases, including hormonal shock, plasma exchange, gammaglobulin therapy in the acute phase and immunosuppressive treatment in the remission phase, such as azathioprine, morte-macrolide, cyclophosphamide, tacrolimus, rituximab, and tocilizumab, as well as immune modifying therapy for multiple types of sclerosis, such as beta-interferon and teriflunomide. The team performed several stereotactic brain biopsies with functional neurosurgery for complex diseases. Minimally invasive transthoracoscopic thyme removal for patients with myasthenia gravis is performed in collaboration with the Department of Thoracic Surgery. The department has established research directions for diseases such as demyelinating disease, central nervous system vasculitis, autoimmune encephalitis, viral encephalitis, and myasthenia gravis. The team has set independent files for patients, opened follow-up clinics, and regularly dedicated clinical and imaging follow-ups. The team has also established a WeChat public platform to provide patients professional health guidance and a convenient follow-up path.
Scope of treatment:
Infectious and immune diseases of the nervous system, mainly including: (1) inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system represented by clinically isolated syndrome, multiple sclerosis, myelitis/optic neuromyelitis optica spectrum disease, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis; (2) various infectious meningitis and encephalitis; (3) autoimmune encephalitis (such as anti-NMDA receptor antibodies, anti-LGI1 antibodies, anti-GABAB receptor antibodies, etc.); (4) central nervous system vasculitis; (5) myasthenia gravis; (6) neurological paraneoplastic syndrome; (7) other central nervous system diseases related to autoimmunity.
