The Radiotherapy Department
The Radiotherapy Department of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, featuring radiotherapy for neurological tumors, was founded in 1987. Currently, the department has 11 doctors (1 chief physician, 3 deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, 3 postdoctoral fellows, 3 PhDs and 2 masters). At present, the clinical business carried out by the department includes: 1. Outpatient department of neurological tumor radiochemotherapy; 2. Chemotherapy for pediatric neurological tumor (pediatric ward); 3. Neurological tumor radiochemotherapy department of medical joint hospital. The advanced accelerators equipped in radiation department are more suitable for radiation therapy of CNS tumors. In the past 5 years, the radiotherapy team has undertaken 6 national level projects, including the Major Project for Young Scientists of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 provincial and ministerial level projects, and 6 other talent projects, with a total funding over 10 million yuan. In the past 5 years, more than 30 SCI papers have been published, with a cumulative impact factor over 120 points. The team have also led the implementation of four 2-3 phases national multicenter clinical trials, with a total funding over 12 million yuan.
The department director Xiaoguang Qiu (Chief Physician, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor), has been engaged in basic and clinical research on neurological tumor radiotherapy for 30 years. He has rich experience treating gliomas, germ cell tumors, medulloblastomas, central nervous system lymphomas, and other CNS tumors. Since practice, the accumulated number of the patients was nearly more than 25000. Currently, he serves as the vice-director of the Clinical Diagnosis, Treatment and Research Center for Brain Glioma of Capital Medical University, the vice Chairman of the Brain Glioma Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Association and the leader of the Reproductive Cell Oncology Group, the vice-chairman of the Brain Glioma Committee, the vice chairman of the Neuro-tumor Expert Committee of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO), the deputy Leader of the Neuro-oncology Group of the Radiation Therapy Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the successor team leader of the China Glioma Collaborative Group. He has participated in the preparation of radiotherapy chapters for several guidelines and consensus, including the "China Central Nervous System Glioma Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines" and the "Glioma Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines" of the National Health Commission, etc. In 2014, he was awarded the Second Prize of Science and Technology by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association. In 2017, he was awarded the Second Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress for the project of "Key Technological Innovation and Application Promotion of Glioma Diagnosis and Treatment", in which he participated as the principal investigator. In 2022, he was awarded the titles of "Fifth People's Famous Doctor" and " Famous Doctor of Beijing Tiantan Hospital".
