Department of Pathology
1. Staff Overview
The Pathology Department has a total of 24 staff members, including 14 pathologists and 10 technicians. Among the pathologists, there are 7 with Ph.D and 7 with master's degrees. The technical team includes 1 person with a master's degree and 1 person currently pursuing a master's degree. In terms of professional titles, the pathologist team consists of 3 chief pathologist, 1 associate chief pathologist, 2 attending pathologist, and 8 residents. The technical team includes 1 associate chief technician, 1 senior technician, and 8 technicians. Our hospital has invited Professor Zi-Fen Gao from the Department of Pathology at Peking University School of Medicine and Professor De-Hong Lu from the Pathology Department of Xuanwu Hospital as honorary professors. They provide consultations for difficult cases and also conduct teaching sessions using case studies. Each year, we receive nearly 1000 difficult cases related to the lymphohematopoietic and nervous systems from all over the country, which not only helps patients solve practical problems but also contributes to the development of the field of pathology and the training of pathologists.
2. Introduction of the Head of Pathology Department
Ge-hong Dong serves as the Deputy Director of the Pathology Department and is responsible for its management. She holds a Ph.D. degree and is an Associate Chief Pathologist. She is a member of the Pathology Branch of the Beijing Medical Association and a committee member of the Beijing Pathology Quality Control and Improvement Center. She also serves as the Chairman of the Beijing Fengtai District Pathology Quality Control and Improvement Center.
3. Diagnostic and Treatment Services Offered
The Pathology Department includes facilities such as the autopsy diagnostic room, specimen collection room, frozen section room, cytology room, histopathology room, immunohistochemistry room, and PCR room. Currently, we are able to provide routine autopsy examinations, frozen sections, immunohistochemistry, cytology, and fluorescence in situ hybridization for diagnostic purposes. To date, we have completed over 290,000 cases of histopathological diagnoses, over 180,000 cases of gynecological cytology, and over 30,000 cases of non-gynecological cytology. Our specialty projects include urine liquid-based cytology for detecting cancer cells, which helps reduce patient discomfort. We have also accumulated a wealth of diagnostic experience with over 100 cases of biopsy pathology diagnoses for central nervous system lymphoma.
4. Teaching and Research Work
The Pathology Department is responsible for undergraduate teaching in Clinical Medicine at the Fifth Clinical Medical College of Capital Medical University, as well as teaching for undergraduate and graduate students in Laboratory Medicine. In the past five years, we have undertaken over 30 continuing education projects in Fengtai District and one continuing education project in Beijing.
