Department of Rehabilitation Medicine
After the Beijing Tiantan Hospital moved to the new hospital area in 2018, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine was formally established as a specialized clinical department integrating clinical rehabilitation, scientific research, teaching, and innovation transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine works closely with the national key departments of Beijing Tiantan Hospital - Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuroimaging, and together with the Beijing Key Laboratory of Brain Function Reconstruction, forming a green channel of clinical new rehabilitation treatment technology innovation in a trinity of clinical, scientific research and technology transformation, while docking with the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Neurological Diseases' 4321 Project (see website) is a unique and high-quality resource. It is a clinical department with great potential for development. The department gathers outstanding scientific and technological innovation talents in neurological rehabilitation nationally and internationally. It is set to create an internationally advanced and domestically leading clinical treatment platform for neurological rehabilitation.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is located on the sixth floor of the third inpatient building, with 31 beds in the hospital. Zang Dawei and Zhang Yumei, as the leaders of the team, leading a well-trained and skilled professional team, the team promotes the construction of a talent echelon and the rapid development of the department based on the standardized operation of rehabilitation medicine treatment and standardization, with the core of characteristic neurological rehabilitation, innovation and development of the most cutting-edge neurological rehabilitation treatment technology nationally and internationally as the focus, patient satisfaction with the rehabilitation treatment effect as the goal, and scientific and technological innovation of rehabilitation methods as the driving force.
The department absorbs and integrates the advantages of modern rehabilitation treatment technologies and models from the United States, Japan, and Germany, adheres to the spirit and culture of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, and insists on "strong neurological rehabilitation and comprehensive rehabilitation" while taking neurological rehabilitation as the core development direction. The Department of Neurological Rehabilitation is the core development direction while considering cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, critical care rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, spinal and spinal cord rehabilitation, and orthopedic rehabilitation. The team drives the refinement of rehabilitation therapy specialties and specialized rehabilitation care such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, swallowing therapy, speech therapy, cognitive psychotherapy, and rehabilitation engineering. The team strives to build the Department of Rehabilitation into an internationally advanced and domestically leading rehabilitation assessment and treatment platform with "characteristic special technology, characteristic special treatment, and characteristic rehabilitation specialties."
Introduction of Section of Rehabilitation Therapy:
The Section of Rehabilitation Therapy is subordinate to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, located on the third floor of the Rehabilitation Building, and the Rehabilitation Clinic on the second floor of Outpatient Building 1, respectively, with a total area of more than 1,000㎡. It is an internationally advanced and domestically leading clinical platform for neurological rehabilitation technology innovation, with the National Key Department of Beijing Tiantan Hospital - Neurology Center and Neurosurgery as its clinical support, and the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Neurological Diseases as its technological support, meeting the rehabilitation needs of patients while being a platform for the latest international and domestic clinical neurological rehabilitation technology innovation.
The treatment section on the third floor of the rehabilitation building has a physiotherapy and occupational therapy hall, independent rehabilitation function assessment room, non-invasive brain stimulation room, high-frequency physical therapy room, speech therapy room, swallowing therapy room, psychotherapy room, Brain-Inspired Intelligence engineering room, traditional medicine rehabilitation treatment room, and cultural and sports area, which can provide a comprehensive standardized treatment and technology innovation platform and bring patients a comfortable and warm rehabilitation treatment experience.
The treatment department of the rehabilitation outpatient clinic is equipped with a functional assessment room, physical factor treatment room, physiotherapy room, and occupational therapy room, which can provide a comfortable and convenient rehabilitation treatment experience for outpatients.
Introduction of featured rehabilitation equipment:
Gait Training and Assessment System A3 is a rehabilitation robot for walking training for patients with lower limb dysfunction. It is computer-controlled and driven by a gait correction device, which enables patients to reinforce standard gait memory through gait training in an upright position with constant repetition and fixed trajectory to re-establish the functional area of walking in the brain, establish correct walking patterns, and effectively exercise relevant muscles and joints. The training is designed to stimulate the recovery of function. It is mainly applied to rehabilitating walking dysfunction caused by stroke (cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage) and other neurological injuries. The earlier the patient is trained with the A3 system, the better the functional recovery effect.
②Anti-gravity running table, using NASA's technology on air pressure (DAP), accurately regulates air pressure and achieves partial weight loss with 'weightlessness' technology, providing more possibilities for rehabilitation and training. The pressure bag reduces the impact of gravity on athletes and patients so that they can be pain-free and in a resistance environment to train muscles, improve joint range of motion, improve balance and various body functions, etc. NASA technology uses the patented technology of differential air pressure (DAP), accurate air calibration system, and real-time information transfer, in 1% increments, weight bearing down to a minimum of 20% of body weight (80% weight loss of body weight), fast, labor-saving and accurate. The user can train with a maximum weight reduction to a pain-free level, and by partially bearing the weight, the patient can prepare within a tolerable pain range.
③CON-TREX-MJ multi-joint isometric system can be used to train six joints in the whole body, including shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle joints. Research has confirmed that the strength training effect of isokinetic training is better than isometric training and isotonic training. con-trex TP can perform low back muscle training. After fixation, the patient stands on the pedal and can do lumbar forward flexion and back extension movements. The built-in training module allows isometric, isotonic, and continuous passive motion (CPM) training to meet the needs of patients at different stages of plyometric training. During testing and training, the device can record real-time data that can be saved, viewed, and analyzed at any time. The data from several tests can be compared to monitor the effect of strength training at any time, which is essential for developing and adjusting training programs.
④ Situational interactive gait analysis and training system can be used for gait analysis and rehabilitation training in neurology, orthopedics, sports medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and elderly medical care. The system integrates the distribution measurement system of plantar pressure, visual stimulation target-oriented training system, video analysis module, and virtual training module, which can measure and analyze the distribution of dynamic forces in walking, analysis of standing balance ability, and biofeedback walking training combined with various situational interaction modes.
⑤ Upper limb rehabilitation robot, mainly used for rehabilitation training of upper limb dysfunction caused by stroke, spinal cord injury, postoperative orthopedic diseases, and peripheral nerve injury.
In the future, the Department of Rehabilitation will be based on a high point and entirely use the distinct clinical advantages of the leading neurosurgery, neurology and neuroimaging departments domestically and internationally to serve patients with high-quality and standard functional disorders. At the same time, relying on the only national clinical medical research center for neurological diseases in China, the department will gather advantages and promote the innovative development of China's rehabilitation field in terms of discussing innovative rehabilitation technology theories, formulating creative rehabilitation technology standards, changing traditional rehabilitation technology practices and breaking through conventional rehabilitation technology bottlenecks, so that the department will become an internationally advanced and domestically leading rehabilitation clinical treatment and rehabilitation technology innovation platform trusted by peers and patients as soon as possible.
