Neurosurgical Oncology Ward 4
Neurosurgical Oncology Ward 4
Neurosurgical Oncology Ward 4 is a subspecialty department of the National Key Clinical Specialties (Neurosurgery) of the Ministry of Health, specializing in the individualized and comprehensive treatment of neurological tumors. It specializes in the surgical and comprehensive treatment of glioma, meningioma, pituitary tumor, craniopharyngioma, and primary central nervous system lymphoma. The ward has 11 doctors, six chief physicians, four deputy chief physicians, three doctoral supervisors, and three master's supervisors. Currently, the ward has 37 open beds and 5 beds for clinical new drug or technology trials. It treats more than 1,200 patients and nearly 1,000 surgeries each year. The treatment team extensively adopts high-quality, minimally invasive surgery with slight postoperative damage, quick recovery, short hospitalization, and low cost.
Specialties
The ward mainly treats difficult and complex brain tumors, including glioma, meningioma, pituitary tumor, craniopharyngioma, and other surgical treatments. We specialize in the minimally invasive surgical treatment of functional area glioma and functional area meningioma and surgical treatment of postoperative recurrent glioma and recurrent meningioma. Especially the team in Ward 4 specializes in highly invasive surgery for tumors in functional area sites.
We widely carry out the international advanced technology-assisted precision surgical treatment, including neuronavigation system, intraoperative high field strength 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging, functional magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging, spectral imaging, cortical and subcortical electrical stimulation, intraoperative ultrasound, LITT and other international advanced technology applications to improve the overall success rate of surgery. While removing the tumor, we improve the protection rate of essential brain functions such as movement and language, significantly reduce the rate of functional disorders after the surgery, and improve patients' high quality of life—internationally advanced radical treatment of venous sinus meningioma with neuro-vascular unit protection. Clinical trials of new drugs for recurrent glioma and malignant lymphoma of the brain have achieved remarkable results and significantly prolonged survival. International scholars have highly recognized the treatment effect.
At present, we are carrying out prospective clinical research on the precise localization of functional areas based on the new generation of intelligent neuronavigation technology, the evaluation of the effectiveness of high-field intensity intraoperative magnetic resonance and fluorescence imaging technology in the surgical treatment of glioma, the blood flow reconstruction technology and the neurovascular unit protection technology for venous sinus meningioma. We continue to improve the effectiveness of various surgical treatment types and comprehensively inhibit tumor recurrence. We have been cooperating with foreign clinical centers such as Montreal Neurosurgery Institute, Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital, and other famous neurosurgery centers for a long time. The ward carries out a multidisciplinary cooperative treatment mode. It completes surgical treatment and targeted comprehensive therapy under the guidance of molecular pathology under the joint direction of neurosurgery, neuroimaging, neuro electrophysiology, neuropsychology, neuro tumor chemotherapy, neuromuscular pathology, and other multi-disciplines. The team participated in the drafting of the National Health Care Commission's "Glioma Treatment Guidelines (2022 Edition)".
The research team of the ward has undertaken more than 10 national and provincial level projects in recent years, such as the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. The first/corresponding author has published over 100 SCI papers, nine with IF>10, and 5 journal cover papers. The team holds many national and municipal-level continuing education training programs every year. The department has "215 Project" Beijing discipline leader, Beijing Science and Technology Rising Star, North Brain Young Scholar, etc. The ward has been awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Department" of Beijing Tiantan Hospital many times, and the nursing team has been awarded the "Star Nursing Unit" of the hospital.
