Dr. Ma is an outstanding expert of pediatric neurosurgery, graduated in Medicine (N.D.) in 1977. He completed his training in neurosurgery in Beijing XuanWu Hospital from 1977 to 1982.
In1990, he moved to Beijing Tiantan Hospital and became an associated professor of neurosurgery, where he was fully involved in all fields of neurosurgical practices. Since 1998, he has been a professor of neurosurgery and the director of Pediatric Neurosurgery Department, Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, which is the only one unit specialized to treat children’s neurosurgical diseases in China.
During the last 10 years, Dr. Ma has been emphasizing the individual approaches for intracranial tumors in children, with special emphasis on varied approaches for sellar tumors and transcallosal interfornicial approach for third ventricular tumors, especially forpineal region tumors. All these works increase exposure and filiate tumor resection and decrease damage to adjacent normal tissue, postoperative complication, morbidity and mortality.
Dr. Ma has published more than 20 publications, including 10 international journals. He has won the “Beijing Technique and Science Progress Prize” and “Beijing Health Bureau Prize” twice, respectively.
Pediatric Neurosurgery Department of Beijing Tiantan Hospital can admit 35 patients at the same time. Annually, about seven hundred patients receive treatments, about six hundreds of which undergo operation. The common diseases include tumors in brain and spinal cord (craniopharyngioma, medulloblastoma, ependymoma, germinoma, teratoma, etc), neurological congenital disease (hydrocephalus, arachnoid cyst, neural tube defect)，and brain injury in children . It is also a training center for graduated doctors and receives many overseas and domestic visitors each year.
